Hi

has anyone experience with selling prints here? Should I do that?

Also: I am searching for the print requests I did get over time, but I can't find them...

You can see prints here. The information on how to do it is here: FAQ #620: How do I submit print products?

As mentioned above DeviantART does default you to 20% profit, UNLESS you have a premium account. with a premium account you can set your own profit margin. That's why you see some prints for sale at $4.99, the default price for that size, and some for $49.99 or even higher for the same size print.

There's a fine line there as the higher cost means less sales. I would advise giving yourself a decent profit on the prints, especially your nudes. You're a beautiful woman and they will sell well. Remember you can always come down on a price but it's very difficult to go up on it. [Well known retail advice. I worked in advertising for more than 10 years. ^_~] You can find a list of the default prices for all items and sizes, along with your profit margin on each one here: FAQ #337: What are the base prices on prints and other products?

Payout is done on a Quarterly basis if you elect to be paid by check or Paypal and have over $20.00 available during that quarter. Immediately if you wish to be paid in points. Payout dates are in April, July, October and January.

Basics to submit are:
1) The image must be either JPEG or PNG format and meet the minimum image size requirements stated in FAQ #132: What are the minimum image sizes for each product?
2) Submit it under one of the categories that is print enabled
3) All other steps are explained in FAQ #620: How do I submit print products? ;) OK I cheated there lol

Another helpful FAQ is FAQ #185: Which is better, Glossy, Matte or Lustre® finishes?
By the way, I took the liberty of adding you as a friend, hope you don't mind. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have. I'm good at finding answers. ;)

Selling online does not pay off. The only is the real world, real print exhibited in galleries, real people you can talk to, face to face. Since I'm on DA (less than a year) I've had thousands of faves, tens of features, 2 DDs, etc...but never sold one print. In the real world I had several exhibitions and sold tens of pieces!

thanks for the input. I must admit, I never had an exhibition

You can try to sell prints here, but if you take into consideration the time spent, you will earn perhaps 50 cents an hour at best.

This might not be possible for you, but I find at a village near me they have a local arts festival where people open up their houses and artists/photographers use them as a gallery with home owners receiving a commission. This type of event brings lots of people and after it some artists make deals with the local cafes to display their work.

Like I say this could be area specific but it might be worth trying to find an art event near you and selecting maybe 8-12 prints to display with maybe a port of more work on hand. Best of luck.

I have had a bit of success with this site - [link] - it has paid for itself and then made a bit more so far. You set your own price (you can make a default price list and apply it to all your uploads). They take a big cut of "cards" but that cut decreases with the size of the prints sold. Note - the first 15 images are a freebie, but if you want to put more up you need to buy a $30/year package (which comes with your own website attached to them, by the way). They use Paypal, and anything you earn goes into the account you set up on the 15th of the month.
