and thanks for all the responses to my last journal entry.
First I have to clarify: I think that most people that say that i shoot like a girl, don't mean it in a negative way. They often express it by adding that my pics are so romantic and fragile or something like that.
I just always wondered why ppl think that this might have something to do with me being female. When ppl learn about my job, meaning that I am a mathematician, they seem to be surprised, like that wouldn't be typical female. Although then my photographic work looks typically female to them. I was wondering if that idea came up before or after knowing that I am a girl.
Regarding my models: I think it's true that they feel more relaxed with a girl as a photographer and that it helps with the photos then. But I also think that it is a real benefit for my work as a photographer that i used to model myself (well and sometimes still do), 'cause I usually know exactly what poses and expressions I want and how to get there
But there are disadvantages too... sometimes people are like 'what, you are gestiefeltekatze?? I thought you were a man. Wow, didn't expect a woman to take these pictures. And you are so young, too!'. -Like that seems so be so unbelievable as me being a mathematician. So I guess my pics don't always look like they have been taken by a young woman....

-I wonder, have you asked them? I can understand why they would feel less uncomfortable with a man as a photograph implying some of them do and I'll admit it bothers me when people feel uncomfortable out of generalization when it seems irrational, but that's me not liking the flaws of humans.
And what area of math do you do? I'm curious about that.
come on! everyone together now, chant of the damned style:
''one of us! one of us! ''
anyway, there are more artists among the ''cold and logical'' branded science-types than you might think. it might be their right side of the brain is looking for some attention.
ps. i always thought you were female because of your username... and i was right!
zo keep up ze good vork!

Anticipation, your pictures are absolutely gorgeous and you know it. Gender has nothing to do with how good or bad art is applied.
Most people think mathematician are dry like the Sahara. But my best friend is a mathematician too and he is like you. He play drums in a band, he love to take pictures too etc. I think some people love maths and to be creative. They use their creativity as a valve for the monotony of maths. You as a mathematician might say maths isn't monotone but in my opinion it is.
It's true that there are more men who are talented with math's and sciences and more women who perform with verbal and communication. But the rule is not absolute.
You're beautiful, you're talented. Continue what you're doing because you're doing wonderfully. I will go on my exploration ...
(translation courtesy of google sorry.
As you say yourself, some people guessing your womanly nature and others are mystified to learn that you're a woman, young addition. If we assume that man has a natural temperament to voyeurism, we can expect less meet woman photographing female nudity. These people are surprised, or they have never thought a girl could want to make this work, or they are unable to detect a touch of femininity in an environment.
"And you are so young, too!" Sorry but this is a negative comment. Possibly a client uncomfortable negotiating with a woman sexually business to request more or less. Difficult to know. And if it is wickedness, keep smile and good humor. These are seeds that preserves the weed.
I hope that google has delivered my message because my english is sometimes as clear as oatmeal.
I sincerely don't think these reactions you're getting are meant to be offensive in any way.
I think when people say you do this like 'a girl'..
they really mean that your photos have 'feminine' aspects to them...they don't ..really mean 'girl'...I would hope that's fairly obvious though, right? This could mean anything... it could mean they're refined.. that they're soft.. that they're subdued, or delicate...beautiful...
Its well documented that mathematics/analytics/scientific/systematic mental proclivity/propensity is associated with higher testosterone levels.. as is autism, which is far more prevalent in males than females...as is the notion that these fields have a much higher ratio of men than women.
..Don't tell me you take their surprise to mean "oh girls CAN'T be mathematicians!!! Girls can't be good at math!"
Like I'm sure you already know..things that are perceived as feminine simply means that they are [generally] more [associated] with girls/women, than men....
Besides, why would you be offended by being told you shoot like a girl? What's wrong with that?
lol and the fact that people are pleasantly surprised that you're pretty...and so talented.. and a mathematician ... that OFFENDS you?!? Jesus Christ.
People comment to you that you're remarkable and exceptional, and your reaction is that you're offended? ....
